In today’s era of constant player movement in college sports, fan anxiety has become the norm—and Texas Tech supporters are no exception. With the offseason underway, Red Raider fans are anxiously awaiting word on what the standout players from the 2024-25 basketball team plan to do next.
One of the biggest question marks is junior forward Darrion Williams, who played a crucial role in the team’s Elite Eight run. His standout performance has opened doors for him, whether it’s returning for another season, entering the NBA Draft, or exploring opportunities overseas.
So when Williams posted a photo from inside an airplane, fans immediately began dissecting it for clues. One eagle-eyed follower noticed a Lufthansa Airlines logo and speculated that Williams might be headed to Europe to explore pro options.
Williams quickly (and hilariously) shut that down by replying on X: “I can’t just go on vacation?” followed by two crying emojis.
While the idea of Williams going pro isn’t off the table, it would be somewhat surprising. He’s not currently viewed as a top NBA prospect, and with NIL opportunities at Texas Tech likely surpassing the salary of many overseas leagues—and potentially even a non-guaranteed NBA rookie deal—it may be more financially beneficial for him to stay.
Until Williams makes his plans official, fans will continue to read into every social media post. It’s all part of the rollercoaster of modern college athletics—and sometimes, the players themselves enjoy the ride just as much as the fans.
