The clash erupted near the baseline as the two players exchanged shoves before being separated by teammates and officials, adding a surge of late-game intensity to the Western Conference showdown. With just under seven minutes left and the Lakers holding a comfortable lead, Vanderbilt, known for his defensive tenacity, aggressively guarded Sochan. After a foul was called on Vanderbilt, Sochan threw the ball at him in frustration, sparking a verbal exchange.
