CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson University announced today that it has reached a contract extension with Head Basketball Coach Brad Brownell, keeping him with the Tigers through 2031. The agreement was approved by the Clemson University Board of Trustees Compensation Committee.
“I’m honored and grateful to continue leading this program after 15 years,” Brownell said. “I’m thankful for the support of Graham Neff, President Jim Clements, and our administration as we keep pushing for excellence both on and off the court. I’m also proud of the consistency within my staff, who are essential to our success in player development, recruiting, and winning.”
Brownell is the winningest coach in Clemson basketball history, with 292 career victories. He was named the 2017-18 Sports Illustrated National College Coach of the Year and has led the Tigers to five NCAA Tournament appearances — including four in the past eight seasons — highlighted by a Sweet 16 berth in 2018 and an Elite Eight run in 2024. Clemson is one of only 20 programs to reach both rounds in separate seasons since 2018.
In the 2024-25 season, the Tigers set a program record with 27 wins, including victories over AP Top 5 opponents Kentucky and Duke. Clemson finished 18-2 in ACC play — their highest conference win total ever — and won a record 15 games by double digits, the third-most in ACC history. The team also achieved a 9-1 road record in conference games, surpassing any previous season’s road success by four wins.
Over the past three seasons, Clemson has won 74 games — the most in school history over a three-year stretch — and posted a .717 winning percentage (43-17) in ACC games, also the best consecutive stretch for the program. Since the 2017-18 season, the Tigers rank fourth in the ACC in both overall wins (168) and conference wins (90).
This year marked the third straight season Clemson produced an All-ACC First Team selection: Chase Hunter (2025), PJ Hall (2024), and Hunter Tyson (2023).
Additionally, Clemson’s basketball staff saw some stability, with associate head coach Billy Donlon and assistants Sean Dixon and Dick Bender also receiving contract extensions through the 2026-27 season.
