The 6-foot-6, 200-pound guard earned All-West Coast Conference Second Team honors last season, posting averages of 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Known for his efficiency, Mackinnon shot an impressive 46.7% from the floor, 40.7% from beyond the arc, and 88.7% at the free-throw line.
A native of Brisbane, Australia, Mackinnon began his collegiate career at Elon, where he played two seasons. As a freshman, he was named Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Year after averaging 11.3 points while shooting 46.7% from the field.
His standout performance of the season came in a win over San Diego, where he exploded for 43 points, going 9-for-17 from the field and 7-for-9 from three-point range, along with seven rebounds and four assists.
Mackinnon joins fellow portal additions Dedan Thomas (UNLV), Rashad King (Northeastern), and Michael Nwoko (Mississippi State) as part of head coach Matt McMahon’s retooling efforts for the 2025-26 season. LSU has seen five players enter the portal this offseason, including freshman Vyctorius Miller and sophomore Mike Williams. The Tigers finished the 2024-25 season with a 14-18 overall record and went 3-15 in SEC play.
