Over the weekend, flame-throwing reliever Daysbel Hernández began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett after being sidelined due to forearm tightness. He looked sharp in his return on Sunday, tossing a scoreless inning on just 12 pitches — including three fastballs clocked over 100 MPH, signaling his power arm is back in form.
Before the injury, Hernández played a key role as the Braves’ primary setup man, posting a strong 2.22 ERA through the first few months of the season. While his command was sometimes an issue — walking 7.4 batters per nine innings — he consistently found ways to escape trouble in high-leverage spots.
His absence has been felt in an already shaky Braves bullpen, which has struggled with depth and consistency since his stint on the IL. Though the group has managed to stay afloat, it’s clear the relief corps isn’t the dominant force Atlanta needs to close out tight games.
With his electric stuff on full display in Gwinnett, Hernández looks nearly ready to return — and his comeback could be a much-needed boost to stabilize the back end of Atlanta’s bullpen heading into the second half of the season.
