New York Yankees powerhouse Aaron Judge continues to cement his place among the greatest hitters in MLB history—at least when it comes to the regular season. His recent stretch over the past few years rivals some of the best in league history, and he’s wasted no time heating up again this season.
Statistically, he should be off to an even hotter start. On Sunday, Judge crushed what appeared to be another home run—but the blast was incorrectly ruled foul, and shockingly, the call stood even after video review.
At the time of his exit on Sunday, Judge was slashing an eye-popping .390/.495/.707 with an OPS over 1.200 and an OPS+ in the mid-200s. He’s already hit seven homers—nearly leading the league—though that somehow still feels tame by his recent standards. In short, he’s absolutely demolishing baseballs and carrying a Yankees lineup that’s needed the boost, especially given their shaky rotation early on.
Sunday’s game wrapped up a four-game series at George Steinbrenner Field—New York’s spring training complex, currently doubling as the Rays’ temporary home due to damage at Tropicana Field from Hurricane Milton. After a frustrating loss on Saturday, where marquee reliever Devin Williams coughed up a big lead, the Yankees bounced back behind an elite outing from Max Fried to shut out Tampa Bay 4–0.
But they likely should’ve scored more. Judge’s towering drive that was wrongly ruled foul looked clearly fair once it sailed past the pole. Missing that live is one thing—those calls are tough—but missing it on replay? That’s indefensible.
Manager Aaron Boone was tossed from the game after Judge struck out later in the at-bat, and understandably so. If Judge ends up chasing 70 home runs this summer, this botched call could end up being one fans look back on with serious frustration.
