MAJOR-BREAKING: Battle Continues As Yankees ‘Fear’ Most Hated Rival Will Steal Juan Soto In Free Agency.

The New York Yankees may soon face fierce competition from a rival more eager to sign Juan Soto.

Red Sox Might Outbid Yankees for Soto
According to Randy Miller of NJ.com, the Yankees are reportedly offering Soto less than his $600 million asking price in free agency. Max Dible of Heavy Sports relayed Miller’s recent comments, which could be concerning for New York:

“Randy Miller of NJ.com appeared on WFAN on Friday, November 30, where he mentioned that the Yankees might not go higher than $550 million for Soto. He also suggested that Soto may already have multiple $600 million-plus offers from competitors like the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets,” Dible wrote.

“I’m hearing the Yankees are more worried about the Red Sox than anyone else,” Miller added, as reported by Danny Abriano of SNYtv. “I believe the Mets and Red Sox are in the mix. I don’t think he’s going to the Yankees.”

Red Sox May Offer More Than Yankees’ $550M
Speculation has been rampant throughout the fall that Soto could secure at least $600 million for his next multi-year contract, with some reports even suggesting he could earn up to $700 million.

Recently, the Red Sox emerged as serious contenders for Soto’s services after initially taking a backseat to the Yankees and Mets. The Red Sox have a strong defensive outfield led by Jarren Duran (8.7 WAR) and Wilyer Abreu (3.5 WAR), with Soto (7.9 WAR) potentially helping elevate their roster into a playoff contender in 2025.

Soto Could Boost Red Sox and Rival Yankees
Soto’s addition could push the Red Sox (81-81) ahead of the Yankees (94-68) in the AL East next season, which would be a blow to New York’s dominance in their rivalry and World Series ambitions. The Mets, too, should not be overlooked, as owner Steve Cohen is known for his willingness to spend heavily to improve his team. Soto could command a significant contract in Queens.

Money Will Be Key in Free Agency
Finances will play a critical role in this bidding war. The Yankees have $193.2 million in payroll commitments for next season, with a projected total of $229 million, according to Spotrac. A deal with Soto could cost them $50 million-plus annually on average, not to mention the possibility of them having to outbid other teams.

Soto, a five-time Silver Slugger Award winner, is expected to make his decision before the winter meetings begin on December 9. This latest development could have significant implications for the Yankees’ plans as they aim to bounce back in 2025 after falling just short of the World Series in 2024.
