MAJOR-BREAKING: Braves Fans STUNNED by Unexpected Coaching Hire — Is This Snitker’s Replacement?

While some of Brian Snitker’s decisions and explanations during his time as manager of the Atlanta Braves have been frustrating, there’s no denying that he’s cemented his place among the franchise’s all-time greats. Snitker not only spent decades with the organization, but also took over a struggling team after Fredi Gonzalez’s exit and helped turn it back into a powerhouse. Interestingly, Gonzalez is now back in the picture—and he might not be going anywhere anytime soon.

Following a short and rocky stint by Matt Tuiasosopo as the team’s third base coach—highlighted by some questionable send-homes—Gonzalez’s return to fill that role surprised many Braves fans. His previous tenure as manager ended on a sour note, and many fans still hold negative memories from that era. Now that he’s returned in a coaching capacity, it raises the question: Could Gonzalez be in line to eventually succeed Snitker as manager?

Braves Fans Should Be Wary of a Potential Gonzalez Comeback as Manager

It’s clear that Snitker’s time at the helm is nearing its conclusion. He turns 70 this October and has already acknowledged that retirement is on the horizon, though the exact timeline remains uncertain.

As for his successor, it’s been a bit of a mystery. Bench coach Walt Weiss has long been considered the most likely internal candidate due to his experience and rapport with the organization. Some have also floated the idea of an external hire or even a return for Ron Washington. However, Gonzalez’s reintroduction into the coaching staff adds an unexpected wrinkle.

In reality, the hire might be more straightforward. Gonzalez brings plenty of coaching experience, has ties to Atlanta, and—most importantly—is someone Snitker trusts. In a limited role as third base coach, he’s unlikely to be a liability and could offer a steady veteran presence to a team in need of energy.

But if Gonzalez were to emerge as a serious candidate to take over once Snitker steps down, fans would have valid reasons to be concerned. They’ve seen this movie before—and most would prefer not to watch the sequel.
