Breaststroker Alexis Dalton has committed to swim for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks starting in the fall of 2025. A swimmer with Dynamo Swim Club, Dalton is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Atlanta, Georgia, and competes for Lovett High School during the swim season.
She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am beyond grateful to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at The University of South Carolina! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for helping me through this process. I also want to thank the amazing coaching staff at South Carolina for their warm welcome and for giving me this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait for what’s to come! GO GAMECOCKS!! 🤙🤙🖤♥️”
Dalton is a Winter Juniors qualifier and achieved the 100 breaststroke qualifying standard again this past summer at the 2024 Speedo Summer Championships in July. There, she improved her long-course meters 100 breaststroke time twice, first recording a 1:12.50 in prelims, then finishing with a 1:11.93 in finals.
Her best short-course yards breaststroke times come from the Speedo Southern Premier in March 2023, where she swam a 1:02.64 in the 100 breast for second place and a 2:21.39 in the 200 breast prelims, finishing 15th overall.
Dalton has also had a strong high school season. With the 200 breaststroke not being part of the high school events, she switches to the 100 freestyle as her secondary race. At the 2024 GHSA 1-5A State Championships, she earned third place in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. The previous year, she finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 100 freestyle.
South Carolina’s top breaststroker last season was Lien Yu, now a sophomore, with a time of 1:01.69. Although the breaststroke group took a hit due to graduations, swimmers like Delaney Walker have stepped up, and Dalton will be a welcome addition to bolster the team’s depth. She’ll need to improve her times to make an impact at the SEC Championships, especially as the competition intensifies with Texas joining the conference.
The South Carolina women’s team is coming off a successful 2023-24 season, where they finished seventh at the 2024 SEC Championships, their highest finish since 2011. Dalton’s commitment adds to a promising 2029 recruiting class, which also includes Kesa Taivassalo, Tori Abruzzo, and Sofia Luper.
