The Colorado Avalanche made several moves ahead of Friday’s trade deadline, and Charlie Coyle, one of the new additions, spoke with the media before their 7-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Coyle shared that his trade to the Avalanche was a bittersweet experience, acknowledging the emotional side of leaving the Boston Bruins, his hometown team. “I’m pretty excited. It’s crazy how quickly things change,” Coyle said. “I loved being in Boston, so it’s bittersweet, but at the same time, it’s an incredible opportunity to join such a strong team, and that excites me a lot.”

Charlie Coyle,
Coyle, 33, has 23 points in 65 games this season and is in the final year of a six-year contract he signed with the Bruins in November 2019, set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He was part of the Bruins’ major roster changes, which also saw players like defenseman Brandon Carlo traded to Toronto.
In a coincidental twist, Coyle traveled to Colorado with Carlo, who was traded to the Maple Leafs. “It’s funny how it works,” Coyle commented. “One night you’re teammates and good friends, and the next, you’re playing against each other.”
Coyle and the Avalanche got the better of Carlo’s new team, securing two points in their win over the Leafs on Saturday.
