The New York Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen have been given one more season to get the franchise back on track, making the 2025 NFL Draft crucial for their success. With the No. 3 overall pick, they have a chance to land an impact player, but one recent mock draft suggests they might make a surprising move—trading down in the draft.
Giants Trade Down and Land Two Second-Round Picks in the 2025 Draft
As NFL draft season heats up with events like the Senior Bowl, NFL Combine, and Pro Days, experts and analysts are busy crafting their predictions. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently proposed a trade scenario that sees the Giants move down five spots from No. 3 to acquire two second-round picks.
Barnwell explained, “If Ward and Sanders are selected with the top two picks, the Giants would face a tough decision. Abdul Carter would be the top available player, but with Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux already starting, they don’t need another edge rusher.
They could consider Travis Hunter, but after selecting Malik Nabers and signing Paulson Adebo, their need at wide receiver or cornerback isn’t urgent. The Giants should focus on finding a future quarterback and offensive line help.”
The trade scenario would have the Giants receiving the 57th overall pick in the 2025 Draft and a second-round pick in 2026 from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for the No. 3 pick and a future fifth-round pick in 2026.
Barnwell argued that adding the second-round picks would help the Giants address immediate needs while taking a calculated risk, especially considering the Panthers’ struggles in recent years, which could make their 2026 second-round pick valuable.
However, the potential trade raises concerns—if the Giants have another rough season in 2025, Daboll and Schoen may not even be around to make use of that 2026 pick.
Who Could the Giants Target at No. 8?
If the Giants miss out on the top quarterback prospects by trading down, they could still address other positions of need, but they would also forgo players like Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter, who are highly regarded in this draft class.
At No. 8, the Giants could look to bolster their offensive line, with players like Armand Membou, Kelvin Banks Jr., and Will Campbell as potential targets. Another option could be an elite running back like Ashton Jeanty, who could help improve the offense.
