MAJOR-BREAKING: Kentucky makes the Cut For Illinois Rising Star Talented Freshman Transfer Morez Johnson

The Kentucky Wildcats have a new player of interest in the transfer portal, someone they recently competed against: Illinois freshman forward Morez Johnson, a highly regarded prospect currently available.

As reported by college basketball journalist Jon Rothstein, Kentucky is one of six finalists for Johnson, alongside Ohio State, Kansas, Michigan, Tennessee, and Arkansas.

A 4-star recruit in the class of 2024, Johnson was ranked 31st nationally and sixth among centers in his class. The 6-foot-9, 225-pound native of Illinois averaged 7.0 points on 64.2% shooting, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 17.7 minutes per game.

In Kentucky’s Round of 32 matchup, Johnson posted five points on 2-of-4 shooting, seven rebounds, and one steal in 17 minutes. He had been showing significant improvement in Big Ten play before suffering a broken wrist that kept him out for almost a month. He struggled to reach double figures in the four games following his return.

According to KenPom, Johnson mainly played the center position (5) but also spent some time at power forward (4).
