MAJOR-BREAKING: Shocking Move: Yankees DUMP Veteran Starter — Triple-A Flame-Thrower Gets the Call

The Yankees didn’t end up needing 6 to take his scheduled start this week, thanks to Clarke Schmidt being pushed back in the rotation due to some minor side soreness.

That scheduling shift turned out to be a sign of things to come: on Tuesday, the Yankees designated Carrasco for assignment, effectively ending his stint with the team—at least for now. The move came on what would have been his next start day had Schmidt remained on track.

To fill the vacancy on the roster, the Yankees called up reliever Yerry De Los Santos, who impressed with two scoreless innings during his brief appearance as the 27th man in their April 27 doubleheader. He’s off to a strong start in Triple-A, posting a 1.74 ERA over 10 appearances with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Carrasco had earned a rotation spot in spring training as a non-roster invitee, especially with Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Schmidt all temporarily sidelined. But despite exceeding expectations in March, the 38-year-old struggled to maintain that form. Over eight games (six starts), Carrasco was hit hard, compiling a 5.91 ERA and surrendering seven home runs in just 32 innings. His final appearance came in relief on Sunday, when he tossed three innings against the Rays.

Looking ahead, the Yankees could slide long reliever Ryan Yarbrough into Carrasco’s rotation slot. He recently made a spot start when Schmidt was scratched. Another option could be Allan Winans, who has starting experience but is currently in Triple-A and would require a roster move to bring him up.
