The New York Yankees have started the season strong, but recent offensive struggles could push them to seek reinforcements at the trade deadline — especially a power bat to support Aaron Judge. With Giancarlo Stanton yet to play this season (though progressing toward a return), the Yankees may still look to bolster their lineup with another home run threat.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Colin Keane, Atlanta’s Marcell Ozuna could be a top target. Keane notes that the Yankees are no strangers to acquiring big bats, even if the fit isn’t perfect. “They figure it out,” he wrote, citing last year’s trade for Jazz Chisholm, who was shifted to third base despite not being a natural fit.

Ozuna is off to a hot start in 2025, hitting .300 with a .484 OBP and .500 slugging percentage, along with four home runs and an MLB-best 25 walks. He leads the National League in on-base percentage and is in the final year of his contract. Spotrac projects he could command a four-year, $77 million deal in free agency — giving the Braves incentive to trade him if their season slips further off course.
Since 2023, Ozuna has launched 83 homers and is a three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger. While his defense in the outfield remains a liability, the Yankees could overlook that just to get his bat in the lineup — even with Stanton eventually returning as the DH.
