Yankees Entered Colorado With Two Goals — Aaron Judge Took Care of One Quickly
When the New York Yankees arrived in Colorado to face the lowly Rockies, they had a couple of clear objectives: win the series against one of MLB’s worst teams — and finally see Aaron Judge check off the last ballpark he hadn’t homered in: Coors Field.
Judge wasted no time. He launched a solo home run on Friday night to end his drought at the Mile High ballpark, even though the Yankees dropped the series opener.
But he wasn’t finished.
In the first inning of Saturday’s game, Judge crushed another homer — a 405-foot blast off Kyle Freeland — raising his season total to 18 and vaulting him to the top of the MLB home run leaderboard.
Judge is in a tight race with sluggers like Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Schwarber, and Cal Raleigh, but his recent surge has him eyeing the home run crown for a second straight season. If he can hold onto the lead, Judge would become the first player since Joey Gallo (2017–18) to lead the majors in home runs in back-to-back years.
Once again, the Yankees captain is squarely in the thick of the AL MVP race, looking to join Ohtani in winning consecutive league MVP awards. With his production and leadership, Judge continues to define a new era in Yankees baseball.
Despite his impressive home run streak, the Yankees have struggled in the series offensively. Judge’s solo shot Saturday was just the third run New York had scored in the first two games — a surprising stat for one of baseball’s most potent lineups.
Still, with Aaron Boone’s squad hungry to bounce back after a disappointing showing against Ohtani and the Dodgers, there’s no shortage of motivation. If the Yankees want to make a serious push toward the World Series, they’ll need Judge to keep performing like the superstar he is.
As the 2026 World Baseball Classic approaches, where Judge will captain Team USA, fans can only wait and see how far he can take this team — and how high he can climb in Yankees history.
