MAJOR-BREAKING: Yankees Predicted to Acquire $108M Ace in Shocking Trade to Replace Gerrit Cole

The New York Yankees will be without Gerrit Cole this season after he underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Additionally, Luis Gil will miss the start of the season due to a lat strain.

This offseason, the Yankees signed Max Fried but traded Nestor Cortes to the Milwaukee Brewers. The team is in need of rotation help, and TWSN has suggested they could trade for Luis Castillo of the Seattle Mariners.

“Castillo has had strong performances over the last two seasons with Seattle and could help stabilize the Yankees’ rotation until Cole returns,” TWSN noted. “His biggest value would be in eating up innings.” Castillo, who signed a five-year, $108 million deal in 2023, also has a vesting option for 2028 based on 180 innings pitched in 2027.

Over the past three seasons, he has a 3.34 ERA, with 88 starts and 561 strikeouts. A three-time All-Star, Castillo finished fifth in the 2023 American League Cy Young Award voting. With a deep pitching staff, the Mariners may be open to trading Castillo for players with offensive potential.

The Yankees could tap into their farm system to acquire him, allowing him to join Fried in the rotation while Gil recovers. Once healthy, the Yankees could feature Fried, Gil, and Castillo at the top of their rotation.
