The New York Yankees missed out on Juan Soto earlier this offseason, as he signed a $765 million contract with the New York Mets. In response, the Yankees have shifted focus to a backup plan, which includes signing Paul Goldschmidt and Max Fried, as well as trading for Cody Bellinger and Devin Williams.
Recently, Rucker Haringey predicted that the Yankees would sign top free-agent closer Tanner Scott to complete their offseason strategy. Scott is expected to land a $54 million contract, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Haringey noted, “The Yankees bullpen still needs to add a lefty who can perform in high-leverage situations. While there’s interest in re-signing Tim Hill, they should also pursue the top southpaw reliever available in free agency.
- Tanner Scott
Tanner Scott is that player. Although his struggles with control have sometimes limited his effectiveness, he made the All-Star team in 2024. He possesses a strong fastball and a sharp slider that help him get batters out on both sides of the plate. His versatility will drive up his price and make him highly attractive to the Yankees.”
Adding Scott would be a significant boost to the Yankees’ bullpen, giving them a dynamic late-game duo alongside Devin Williams. With Scott and Williams as a lefty-righty pair, the Yankees would have a powerful closing tandem. If general manager Brian Cashman can address the third-base position affordably, investing in Scott would be a strong move to further strengthen the team.
