The New York Yankees made significant moves this offseason, acquiring big names like Devin Williams, Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt. However, they still face a gap in their infield following the departure of Gleyber Torres in free agency.
To address this, the Yankees could pursue a major trade with the St. Louis Cardinals that would bring Nolan Arenado and Ryan Helsley to the Bronx. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter suggested that the Yankees “could covet” a package deal involving both All-Stars if they trade for Arenado.
Arenado, who has three seasons remaining on his eight-year, $260 million contract with the Rockies, would provide the Yankees with a solution at third base, allowing Jazz Chisholm Jr. to slide over to second and replace Torres.
Meanwhile, Helsley, who is set to become a free agent after this season, would add a potent weapon to the Yankees’ bullpen. Pairing him with Luke Weaver and Devin Williams would give the Yankees a dominant late-inning trio.Ryan Helsley
Although Helsley is projected to secure a six-year, $81 million deal in free agency, his addition to the Yankees would be more of a luxury, giving the team the opportunity to evaluate him and Williams before deciding which reliever to potentially re-sign.
Arenado is a decorated player with eight All-Star selections, five Silver Sluggers, 10 Gold Gloves, and six Platinum Gloves. Helsley, a two-time All-Star, led MLB in saves in 2024. Both could be key pieces in the Yankees’ push for a World Series title.
