MAJOR-NEWS: Aaron Judge Crushes Clutch Homer to Spark Yankees Doubleheader Domination of Blue Jays!”

Aaron Judge broke a tie in the sixth inning of the second game with his eighth home run of the season, helping the New York Yankees complete a doubleheader sweep over the Toronto Blue Jays with 11-2 and 5-1 victories on Sunday.

Celebrating his 33rd birthday just a day earlier, Judge sent the first pitch he saw from Chris Bassitt (2-2) into the right-field stands for a 2-1 lead. He went 3-for-8 across both games and now leads the majors with a .406 batting average, ranking second with 27 RBIs.

Trent Grisham opened the first game with his seventh homer, snapping Bassitt’s streak of 28 2/3 innings without allowing a home run.

J.C. Escarra recorded his first MLB home run in the eighth inning off Chad Green. Earlier, he had driven in a run with a single in the sixth, part of a rally sparked by Jasson Domínguez’s RBI double that forced Bassitt out of the game.

Anthony Santander also homered in the third inning — the lone hit given up by Clarke Schmidt, who threw five strong innings in his third start since returning from rotator cuff tendinitis.

Tim Hill (3-0) threw a scoreless sixth, allowing just one hit. Luke Weaver, taking over closing duties from Devin Williams, closed out the game with a perfect inning, helping hold Toronto to just three hits. Grisham’s leadoff blast marked his sixth career such homer and second of the year, contributing to the Yankees’ league-leading total of five leadoff home runs, with others by Paul Goldschmidt, Ben Rice, and Austin Wells.

Judge snapped a nine-game home run drought. Since April 26, 2024 — when he was batting just .178 with four home runs and nine RBIs — he has hit .363 with 62 home runs and 158 RBIs over his last 159 games.

Upcoming matchups:

  • Blue Jays: RHP Bowden Francis (2-3, 5.38 ERA) will start Tuesday’s home game against Boston’s LHP Garrett Crochet (2-2, 1.95 ERA).
  • Yankees: RHP Will Warren (1-0, 4.79 ERA) is set to open a series at Baltimore on Monday night, facing RHP Tomoyuki Sugano (2-1, 3.54 ERA).
