Giants Shake Up Staff: Coach Departs, New Scout Joins from Familiar Pipeline
The New York Giants have made some behind-the-scenes changes to their football operations, parting ways with a key assistant coach while bringing in new talent on the scouting side.
Angela Baker, who joined the Giants in 2022, has officially left the organization. Baker made headlines at the time of her hiring, coming from a successful career as a standout wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Passion of the Women’s Football Alliance—a competitive, full-contact women’s pro football league. She initially joined the Giants as an offensive quality control coach, a role typically focused on breaking down film and supporting offensive game planning. Her responsibilities grew quickly, and by 2023, she had been promoted to offensive assistant, with a particular emphasis on working with the team’s tight ends.
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Baker left the team “to pursue other opportunities.” While no further details were provided, her departure marks a notable change, as she had become a respected figure within the organization and among advocates for increasing diversity in NFL coaching ranks.
On the personnel side, the Giants have brought in a new face with strong connections to the front office. Tyson Beane, the son of Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beane, has joined the team as a scouting assistant. The hire is notable given the longstanding relationship between Giants GM Joe Schoen and Brandon Beane—Schoen served under Beane during their time together in Buffalo, making this move part of an ongoing trend of Schoen tapping into trusted pipelines.
Meanwhile, Mike Derice, who served as a national scout for the Giants from 2022 to 2024, has also left the organization. Derice played a key role in evaluating talent at the collegiate level and helped shape recent Giants draft classes.
These moves come as the Giants continue to restructure and reinforce both their coaching staff and personnel department ahead of a pivotal 2025 season.
