MAJOR-NEWS: Huge Boost As Vikings Shock Fans with Major Roster Move: Over a Dozen Players Ink Futures Contracts for 2025!

On Wednesday, the Vikings announced they have signed 13 players to reserve/futures contracts for 2025.

Of these 13 players, 11 are familiar faces who spent some or all of the 2024 season with the team, including:

  • Quarterback Brett Rypien
  • Running back Zavier Scott
  • Linebacker Max Tooley
  • Outside linebacker Gabriel Murphy
  • Guard Henry Byrd
  • Tackle Marcellus Johnson
  • Tackle Leroy Watson
  • Receiver Lucky Jackson
  • Receiver Thayer Thomas
  • Defensive lineman Jonathan Harris
  • Defensive lineman Travis Bell

Rypien was on the Vikings’ 53-man roster during the regular season before being waived and re-signed to the practice squad, where he led the scout team offense.

Scott was added to the practice squad before the season but did not get elevated for any games.

Tooley joined the practice squad in September but did not see game action.

Murphy made his NFL debut in Week 14 against the Falcons, recording a tackle and a quarterback hit. He was also elevated for the Week 18 game at Detroit.

Byrd sustained an injury while on the practice squad. He played in the preseason but not during the regular season.

Johnson had stints with both the Vikings and the Giants, while Watson joined Minnesota’s practice squad in December.

Jackson played in three games for the Vikings in 2023, mostly contributing on special teams.

Thomas spent the last two seasons on the practice squad but did not get elevated for a game.

Harris appeared in seven games for the Panthers in 2024, after playing all 17 games with the Broncos in 2023.

Additionally, the Vikings signed cornerbacks Kahlef Hailassie and Reddy Steward to futures contracts. Hailassie, who played in 10 games over the past two seasons with Cleveland, was seen by the Vikings during joint training camp practices and a preseason game against the Browns. Steward played in one game for the Bears in Week 9 of the 2024 season, against the Cardinals.

Jan. 16 Update: The Vikings announced they have signed cornerback Ambry Thomas to a reserve/futures contract. Thomas joined Minnesota’s practice squad in late December after a career with the San Francisco 49ers, where he appeared in 42 regular-season games and five postseason games from 2021-23.

Jan. 17 Update: The Vikings also signed cornerback Nahshon Wright and receiver Jeshaun Jones to reserve/futures contracts. Wright came to the Vikings in a trade that sent cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. to Dallas in August. He was on the Vikings’ practice squad after being waived during roster cuts and was elevated for one game in the 2024 season. Wright has recorded 37 tackles, five passes defensed, and one interception in 32 games with the Cowboys. Jones, a 2024 undrafted free agent, spent the 2024 season on the practice squad after participating in the offseason with the team.
