MAJOR-NEWS: Massive Boost As Kentucky football Officially Lands High Potential Defensive Back Transfer From Maryland

The Kentucky Wildcats have added another key player through the transfer portal, this time strengthening their defense with Kevis Thomas, a transfer from the Maryland Terrapins. Thomas chose Kentucky over offers from UMass, Tulane, and South Alabama. Interestingly, Kentucky had originally recruited Thomas out of high school, but he ultimately decided to play for Maryland.

Over the past two seasons at Maryland, Thomas has shown significant improvement. As a freshman, he saw limited action, recording just two tackles. However, in his second year, he made a big leap, totaling 20 tackles, two pass breakups, and allowing only 17 catches throughout the season. Thomas is a promising talent with plenty of room to grow as he gains more playing time and experience.

With his skill set and potential, Thomas is expected to be a day-one starter for Kentucky’s defense under Brad White. The Wildcats have only lost two defensive backs so far this offseason, but one of those, Zion Childress, was a full-time starter who opted to enter the NFL draft after exhausting his eligibility.

Thomas becomes the 11th player Kentucky has added via the transfer portal this offseason. While the Wildcats have lost 23 players, they are making significant strides in rebuilding and replenishing their roster. Thomas joins a growing list of transfers, including edge rusher Sam Greene, linebacker Landyn Watson, guards Joshua Braun and Alexander Wollschlaeger, wide receiver JJ Hester, tackle Wallace Unamba, quarterback Zach Calzada, tight end Henry Boyer, running back Dante Dowdell, and nose tackle Jaden Williams.

The transfer portal remains a key avenue for Kentucky as they continue to adjust their roster for the upcoming season. As the offseason progresses, expect more changes, with players coming and going and others declaring for the NFL draft.
