The New York Yankees, coming off a World Series defeat, are looking to rebuild under general manager Brian Cashman. Despite losing Juan Soto to free agency, the team has made notable acquisitions this offseason, including Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt.
Now, according to David Singh’s bold MLB predictions for 2025 on Sportsnet, there’s speculation that the Yankees might trade for star shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins.
Singh suggests that Correa, fully recovered from injuries, will be traded to the Yankees in the first half of the season to strengthen their infield. While Correa’s past with the Houston Astros, including his involvement in the sign-stealing scandal, could stir negative reactions from Yankees fans, Singh believes the boos will quickly fade once Correa adds star power to the team’s lineup.
However, acquiring Correa would come at a significant cost. The shortstop is in the third year of his six-year, $200 million deal with the Twins. In 2024, despite battling injuries, Correa batted .310 with 14 home runs and 54 RBIs in just 86 games. The Yankees would need to meet the high asking price to land the three-time All-Star.
The Minnesota Twins have indeed received interest in trading Correa this offseason. MLB insider Bob Nightengale reports that teams have inquired about his availability, considering the Twins’ financial constraints and the fact that Correa holds a no-trade clause. However, nothing substantial has developed yet, with early discussions only taking place.
For the Yankees, GM Brian Cashman remains committed to building a competitive roster. After missing out on Soto, Cashman emphasized his focus on constructing the best team possible each season, carefully evaluating every opportunity. Despite not winning a World Series since 2009, the Yankees continue to make moves to position themselves as strong contenders.
