MAJOR-NEWS: Significant Move As Vikings Projected as Landing Spot for $49 Million Super Bowl Champion

The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback situation has been one of the most talked-about topics early in the offseason, but their cornerback position is another area in need of attention. According to Pro Football Talk’s Ben Rolfe, the Vikings could look to address this need by signing Detroit Lions cornerback Carlton Davis III. With the possibility of their top three cornerbacks departing via free agency, Minnesota’s secondary could undergo significant changes this year.

Davis, who is 28 years old, was drafted in the second round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and played the first six years of his career in Tampa before being traded to the Lions during the 2024 offseason. His transition to Detroit gives him another opportunity to showcase his skills, but it also means that Minnesota could be in the market for a new addition at cornerback.

Rolfe noted that Minnesota’s secondary isn’t the only position in need of reinforcements. The Vikings also face pressing concerns at guard, running back, and along their defensive line. However, their cap space situation offers them the flexibility to target several areas of need, including cornerback, in the upcoming free agency period.

A potential signing of Davis would be a significant move for the Vikings. Rolfe mentioned that Davis is projected to have a contract value of under $14 million per year, which would be a more affordable option compared to retaining current cornerback Byron Murphy, whose average annual value is projected to exceed $22 million. This could allow the Vikings to add another experienced veteran to their secondary alongside Davis.

Davis has been impressive on the field, especially in the 2024 season, where he posted his best career performance in terms of quarterback rating allowed. While staying healthy has been an issue for him at times, when on the field, he is regarded as a top-tier cornerback. His skill set could be just what the Vikings need to solidify their defensive backfield for the 2025 season.
