MAJOR-NEWS; VIKINGS’ BLOCKBUSTER QB MOVE IMMINENT! $160 Million Signal-Caller Eyed as Sam Darnold’s Replacement!

The Minnesota Vikings face a decision between quarterbacks Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy, but a lesser-discussed option may also be on the table: signing Daniel Jones. Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report suggests that the Vikings could consider replacing Darnold with Jones on a value contract. Sobleski highlights that Jones’ decision to join Minnesota after being released by the New York Giants was influenced by his desire to work with head coach Kevin O’Connell and to familiarize himself with the team. If McCarthy struggles or suffers another injury, Jones could even step in as the starter.

Sam Darnold, Vikings

Jones, who was the No. 6 overall pick in 2019, signed a $160 million extension with the Giants before they released him mid-season. However, he’s unlikely to land a lucrative deal in free agency and may find himself in a similar position to Darnold, who came into 2024 with a bridge contract after his failed stints with the Jets and Panthers. Darnold had some success with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, leading the Vikings to a solid regular season but struggling in crucial games, potentially affecting his market value.

The Vikings, with significant salary cap space, could replicate their approach with Darnold by bringing in Jones on a one-year deal. This would allow the team to address other areas like the secondary and offensive line, while having McCarthy and Jones as the top two quarterbacks on the roster, potentially moving on from Darnold.
