MAJOR-NEWS: Vikings’ Makes Heartwarming Valentine’s Day Surprise Visit Which Leaves Kids and Families Speechless!

The Minnesota Vikings brought warmth and joy to a cold Valentine’s Day by visiting three children’s hospitals on Friday. Players, staff, legends, cheerleaders, and Viktor the Viking spread love by connecting with patients and their families, sharing Valentine’s treats and memorable moments.

One of the highlights was when 16-year-old Brady, a patient at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, met quarterback J.J. McCarthy and his fiancée Katya. The visit included a heartwarming football chat, and McCarthy went above and beyond by playing video games with Brady and offering encouraging words.

Brady’s dad, John, mentioned that after witnessing the strong culture within the Vikings’ locker room under head coach Kevin O’Connell, he had officially become a fan, even while wearing gear from a division rival. McCarthy’s gesture of sharing a personal photo with Brady and John from his own childhood further deepened the connection, leaving a lasting impact on the family. McCarthy even offered to stay in touch for updates on Brady’s treatment, further exemplifying the Vikings’ commitment to community and care.

This event wasn’t just about one player – it was a team effort, with other Vikings such as Blake Cashman, Mekhi Blackmon, and Zavier Scott also spreading joy. Samantha Van Ginkel, wife of Andrew Van Ginkel, and Vikings Legend Rickey Young joined in, delivering gifts and brightening the day for young patients at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, Children’s Minnesota Hospital – Minneapolis, and Children’s Minnesota Hospital – St. Paul.

Petra Eastling, the Patient Family Engagement Coordinator, noted the profound impact of these visits. The children often have little control over their circumstances, and events like this, where they can choose to meet a Vikings player, offer a welcome moment of joy in their difficult days. Even if the kids don’t verbalize their gratitude, the difference these visits make is enormous.

The Vikings players enjoyed visiting with the patients, signing books, taking photos, and delivering Valentine’s gifts. Cashman, who has a history of visiting hospitals from his college days, emphasized how valuable it is to bring excitement and positivity to children facing tough times.

Blackmon, who was sidelined for his rookie season, felt especially connected to the community and was moved by a visit to a family dealing with tough news. His act of comforting the boy’s grandmother highlighted the emotional depth of the day and reminded everyone just how much these gestures matter.
