MAJOR-NEWS: Yankees Eye Blockbuster Trade to Snag $116M All-Star From Struggling NL West Team!

The New York Yankees have lost Gerrit Cole for the season after he underwent Tommy John surgery, and Luis Gil has also spent the entire year on the injured list. While Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, and Ryan Yarbrough have performed well, the Yankees might still be looking to add another top-tier pitcher to join Fried in the rotation.

Michael Brakebill of FanSided identified Zac Gallen as a potential trade candidate if the Arizona Diamondbacks decide to sell at the deadline. Currently sitting fourth in the National League West, and dealing with an injury to Corbin Burnes, the Diamondbacks’ outlook could worsen. Although Gallen has struggled recently, if he rebounds, he could become a highly sought-after player come trade season.

Brakebill noted, “Gallen is being paid just $13.5 million by Arizona and is having a down year. He could attract interest at the deadline if available, but unless he improves, he probably won’t be the top option for many teams.”

Zac Gallen

The Yankees might see Gallen as a valuable addition, especially with Gil expected to return eventually. Adding Gallen to the middle of their rotation could bolster their chances for a deep postseason run. Gallen is in the last year of his contract, with projections estimating he could sign a six-year, $116 million deal in free agency. After giving Corbin Burnes a $210 million contract, the Diamondbacks may be open to letting Gallen go.

A former All-Star, Gallen has a 3.46 career ERA and posted a 3.65 ERA in 28 starts last season. While his current 5.54 ERA isn’t impressive, he still offers value and could be an affordable pickup for the Yankees if his price drops.
