MAJOR-NEWS: Yankees Set to Snag $4.5 Million Star After Missing Out on Tanner Scott!

The New York Yankees are reportedly looking to bolster their bullpen this offseason. Although they recently acquired Devin Williams, the closer from the Milwaukee Brewers, they still need a left-handed arm for the later innings.

Tanner Scott would have been a good fit, but he’s already signed a significant deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. FanSided’s Rucker Haringey has predicted that the Yankees will turn to Texas Rangers reliever Andrew Chafin as a potential target, following their miss on Scott in free agency. Chafin is expected to secure a $4.5 million contract this winter, according to Spotrac.

Haringey notes that Scott would have been the ideal addition for the Yankees, but the Dodgers’ offer was too rich for New York’s budget. As a result, he suggests the Yankees should shift their focus to Chafin, who was a strong performer last season.

In 62 appearances, he struck out 70 batters in 56.1 innings. While his fastball may have lost a little velocity in recent years, he remains effective against top left-handed hitters. Chafin could potentially be signed to a one- or two-year deal at a modest price due to his age, and his asking price might drop as the offseason progresses.

Given his solid performance in 2024, Chafin is expected to sign for a reasonable amount, making him a good target for the Yankees as they aim to improve their roster. Adding him would be a smart move for New York.
