Thirty games into the season, the New York Yankees have performed well enough to feel solid—but not satisfied. The early stretch has highlighted clear areas of need, and if the Yankees hope to return to World Series contention, they’ll need reinforcements on both offense and defense.
One potential trade target is Eugenio Suárez, whom Kenneth Teape of Sports Illustrated recently named as a player New York could pursue. The veteran third baseman impressed the Yankees during their early-season series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he launched a grand slam and added a double and two walks over three games.
Teape notes that while Suárez’s defensive reputation is mixed, he’s a capable option at third base. More importantly, his bat could help the Yankees address their offensive inconsistency. The infield was already seen as a weak spot heading into the offseason, but the Yankees opted to rely on internal options rather than make upgrades. That gamble hasn’t fully paid off.

Eugenio Suárez
While pitching will likely remain a trade deadline focus, the Yankees would benefit from Suárez’s power. Despite hitting just .200 so far, he’s already clubbed 10 home runs—including a four-homer game—and owns a career OPS+ of 111. His tendency to strike out is a concern (he’s led the league three times since 2019), but his durability and pop make him a strong midseason addition.
Suárez is on a much more affordable deal compared to Nolan Arenado, making him a more realistic option. Still, the Yankees could see this as an “Arenado-or-bust” scenario, as Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller suggested. If not, Suárez or even someone like Isaac Paredes might be the next-best fits to bolster the hot corner.
