The New York Giants have already made significant investments in their quarterback room for 2025, but they might not be finished adding to it just yet.
After securing Jameis Winston with an $8 million commitment over the next two seasons and potentially up to $21 million for Russell Wilson—should the former Super Bowl champion meet various performance incentives—the Giants could still target one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft.
Could the Giants Really Take Shedeur Sanders?
Despite the hefty financial commitments, neither Winston nor Wilson is considered a long-term solution for the Giants at quarterback.
That’s why the Giants might still be eyeing University of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft, a possibility outlined in Pro Football Focus’ latest mock draft.
“Some believe signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston rules out the possibility of the Giants selecting Sanders,” writes Dalton Wasserman for PFF. “However, with just a combined $14 million guaranteed to the two quarterbacks in 2024, New York could still choose Sanders with the plan to keep all three quarterbacks this season and gradually ease him into the league. If Sanders impresses early, Winston could become trade bait for a team in need of a veteran backup or dealing with an injury.”
Adding Sanders would give the Giants a high-upside rookie to develop for the future while still using Wilson or Winston as a starter in 2025. However, managing this quarterback room, with so many strong personalities, could prove challenging, according to one NFC executive.
I can’t imagine they’ll handle it well,” the rival executive remarked, referring to how head coach Brian Daboll and the coaching staff might juggle the situation. “It’s… a lot.”
Sanders has been one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in this draft class, coming off an outstanding 2024 season in which he threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Given the Giants’ ongoing uncertainty at quarterback, Sanders could be a top target to watch. How Schoen and Daboll handle a quarterback room filled with so many big personalities, however, remains to be seen.
