Notre Dame Strikes Gold in Ohio: 4-Star TE Preston Fryzel Commits in Shocking Move!

The momentum keeps building for Notre Dame Football this week, following a strong finish to last week’s recruiting efforts. On Monday, 3-star tight end Preston Fryzel officially pledged to Marcus Freeman and the Irish’s 2026 class.

Fryzel, a 6’4”, 220-pound prospect from Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio, picked Notre Dame over a solid list of offers including Miami, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Auburn, and more.

According to ISD’s Jaime Uyeyama, Fryzel is a sleeper with major potential. His current rating is comparable to what Eli Raridon had before his senior season — and Raridon later skyrocketed to top-100 status. Uyeyama also sees traits in Fryzel reminiscent of former Iowa standout Sam LaPorta, who developed into a second-round NFL Draft pick with the Detroit Lions.

This marks the 20th commitment in Notre Dame’s 2026 recruiting class and the second from the Buckeye State. The Irish currently hold the No. 3 class in the nation per 247Sports’ Composite rankings.

Tight end recruiting has been strong for the Irish in recent years, and while Fryzel might end up being the lone TE in this cycle, the staff would consider adding one more — if the right fit comes along. Whether it’s Raridon, LaPorta, or even Mitchell Evans, it looks like Notre Dame has landed another big-bodied Ohio product who can block and catch. Count me in.
