Rafael Devers Stands Firm: Red Sox Star Refuses to Move Positions—Will This Spark a Team Turmoil?”

A week ago, Rafael Devers faced criticism for stating he wouldn’t move from third base to make room for Alex Bregman. Now, the Boston Red Sox star has doubled down on his stance. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Devers reiterated his position through translator Daveson Perez, as reported by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo: “I feel like I said everything I needed to say that day. I still feel the same way.”

Devers emphasized that he holds no resentment toward the Red Sox for the situation. “I’m not frustrated,” he said. “I don’t have the need to be frustrated about anything with anybody. My family is good. My kids are good. I have no reason to be frustrated about anything. I don’t listen to what’s said. I don’t pay attention to what is said. I just know what I’m capable of. I’m happy being this way.”

His initial comments sparked widespread discussion, with David Ortiz and Triston Casas backing him up—though Casas’ remarks added even more fuel to the fire. Despite the controversy, Devers remains puzzled by the attention. “I really don’t know why this is becoming such a big story,” he said. “We’re a team, and we communicate with each other. I think the most important thing is for us to have good chemistry together. Like I’ve always said since Day 1, the most important thing for me is that we win. That’s where I stand.”

Devers also dismissed any notion of tension with manager Alex Cora. “We’re a team. Alex is my manager,” he said. “He’s someone I respect a lot. He’s not an enemy of mine. I have the discipline necessary that if I’m not feeling right, I can talk to Alex and communicate that. This is a team, and we have one goal.”

The question of whether the Red Sox will ultimately push Devers to change positions remains unanswered. This storyline is sure to be a focal point throughout spring training, as the team balances its roster dynamics and chemistry.
