Red Raiders Turn Heads with Jaw-Dropping Finishes at Masked Rider Open!

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team officially kicked off its outdoor season by hosting the Masked Rider Open on Thursday at the Fuller Track and Field Complex.

Originally scheduled as a two-day event, the meet was condensed into a single day due to projected bad weather over the weekend.

Fanny Arendt stepped out of her usual 800m event to compete in the 400m and came away with a personal best time of 54.25 to win the race. In the 1500m, Titus Kimaru took the men’s title in 3:46.58, while Brenda Kibor led the women with a 4:37.91 finish.

Amori Pierson, who set a new school record in the shot put last week, claimed another victory with a mark of 16.15m (53-0). Trey Wilson won the men’s shot put with a throw of 18.83m (61-9 ½).

Lily Matherran made her 5,000m debut and won in 17:33.92. Shelby Frank continued to shine, winning the women’s discus with a throw of 59.47m (195-1), placing her ninth in Texas Tech history. She also secured the top spot in the hammer throw with a mark of 62.44m (204-10), the third-best ever for the program.

Next up: The Red Raiders will head to College Station for the 44 Farms Team Invitational at Texas A&M next Friday and Saturday.
