TEAM-NEWS: Yankees Eyeing Game-Changing Move For $22.5 Million Pitcher to Save Rotational Woes After Luis Gil Injury!

Luis Gil will be sidelined for the next few weeks as he recovers from a lat strain, leaving the New York Yankees with Marcus Stroman in the rotation. However, there are whispers that the Yankees might still look to trade Stroman during the season. With Gil out, the question remains: who will step in to fill the rotation?

FanSided’s Rucker Haringey recently speculated that the Yankees could turn to Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Jordan Montgomery as a potential replacement for Gil. Haringey pointed out Montgomery’s past success, noting that the only season since 2020 in which his ERA exceeded 4.00 was 2024. “The Yankees might see a lot of bounce-back potential in the crafty southpaw,” Haringey wrote, suggesting New York could give Montgomery a chance to revive his career.

However, such a move would likely only be possible if the Diamondbacks are willing to absorb a significant portion of Montgomery’s $22.5 million salary. While the chances of him justifying that hefty price tag are slim, Montgomery could still offer more upside than Stroman, making him an intriguing option if the financials align.

If Montgomery can return to his form from 2021-2023, he would provide a significant upgrade over Stroman. But if his struggles continue, he could become a liability. That said, acquiring Montgomery wouldn’t be as risky as it seems. The Diamondbacks would likely have to cover much of his salary, meaning the Yankees could secure him for just a fraction of the cost, making the trade a solid option if the terms are right.
