TEAM-NEWS: Yankees Set to Reunite With $40 Million Veteran to Replace Injured Giancarlo Stanton – Is This the Ultimate Game-Changer?

The New York Yankees have recently lost their ace, Gerrit Cole, to season-ending elbow surgery, and now they may face the possibility of losing designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton to a similar fate. Stanton has been struggling with an ongoing injury, and there’s still no clear timeline for his return.

As a result, the Yankees might consider adding another bat as the season progresses. In a bold prediction, Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer suggested that the Yankees could bring back Anthony Rizzo to replace Stanton while he’s sidelined. Rymer noted that despite limited interest in the 35-year-old Rizzo during the offseason, he has expressed a strong desire to keep playing.

Although Rizzo has not been the same since suffering a concussion in 2023, the three-time All-Star could be a valuable addition for a team in need of a left-handed bat at first base or designated hitter. Rymer’s prediction is that Rizzo could return to the Yankees to help cover for Stanton.

While Rizzo is eager to continue his career, the Yankees might be able to sign him to a team-friendly contract. But does it make sense? The answer is uncertain.

Adding another first baseman alongside Paul Goldschmidt would allow the Yankees to rotate at first base, leaving the DH spot available for someone else to fill in, such as a first baseman or a position player needing a break. If Stanton’s elbow injury worsens, this could be a smart move for the Yankees to consider.
