Vikings’ Draft Strategy Begins to Take Shape as Consensus Builds Around One Key Position
The Minnesota Vikings are just 17 days away from the NFL Draft—and while their direction remains officially unclear, momentum is building around a specific target area. With no glaring holes on the roster thanks to general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s successful free agency moves, the Vikings enter the draft with flexibility and leverage. They can afford to let the board come to them.
That said, a strong consensus has started to emerge among draft analysts: safety is the position to watch. Over the past month, a noticeable trend has developed pointing toward South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori and Georgia’s Malaki Starks as potential first-round targets. Emmanwori, in particular, has been the favorite among mock drafts, being projected to Minnesota 34 times in the last three weeks.
While other positions like cornerback, defensive tackle, and offensive line have surfaced in various mocks—with names like Kelvin Banks, Walter Nolen, and Maxwell Hairston appearing frequently—the safety position continues to draw the heaviest attention.
The Vikings’ versatility in the draft gives them several intriguing paths forward, but if recent projections are any indication, Brian Flores’ defense might be getting a dynamic new piece in the secondary very soon.
