The Minnesota Vikings have faced scrutiny for not selecting a cornerback in the 2025 NFL Draft, despite addressing the position earlier in the offseason.
The team signed Isaiah Rodgers and Jeff Okudah to bolster the secondary alongside starter Byron Murphy Jr. Team leadership — including general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, head coach Kevin O’Connell, and defensive coordinator Brian Flores — have expressed strong confidence in Rodgers and Okudah’s potential to step in as starters.
However, one of last season’s key contributors in the secondary, Shaquill Griffin, may be on his way out. ESPN’s Brady Henderson and Jeremy Fowler reported that the Seattle Seahawks are in talks with Griffin, who is a top target as they seek to add veteran depth at cornerback. Griffin played 17 games with the Vikings last season, registering 41 tackles — his highest total since 2021 — along with six pass breakups and three interceptions.
Vikings fans had viewed Griffin as a reliable fallback if Rodgers or Okudah underperformed. He also posted a 75.8 passer rating allowed — the second-best mark of his career.
A return to Seattle would be fitting for Griffin, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Seahawks and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2019 after a standout campaign. Although there was some optimism he might re-sign with Minnesota, especially after being seen training in team gear, that possibility seems to be fading.
With Griffin likely moving on, the Vikings will now rely heavily on Rodgers and Okudah to elevate a pass defense that ranked among the NFL’s bottom five last season.
