Vikings’ QB Dilemma for 2025: Unexpected Outcome As Daniel Jones Predicted To Ditch Vikings For Rival In Blockbuster Deal.

The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback situation for the 2025 NFL season remains uncertain, with many fans and experts questioning who will be under center. Last year’s starter, Sam Darnold, is set to become a free agent, leaving the team in search of a solution.

Currently, the only quarterback seemingly guaranteed a spot on the roster is J.J. McCarthy, but beyond that, nothing is clear. In addition to Darnold, other Vikings quarterbacks like Nick Mullens, Brett Rypien, and Daniel Jones are also expected to hit free agency.

While re-signing one or more of them remains a possibility, Minnesota has limited draft capital for the 2025 NFL Draft and will need to be strategic in addressing multiple roster needs with free-agent signings.

A recent report has cast doubt on the possibility of Daniel Jones returning to Minnesota. According to the PHNX Podcast, the Arizona Cardinals are reportedly eyeing Jones as a potential high-floor backup to Kyler Murray. The Vikings’ decision to bring in Jones last season and keep him on the practice squad raised eyebrows, but the move ultimately made sense. While on the practice squad, Jones was free to sign with any team, but if that didn’t happen, the Vikings would retain the rights to any compensatory pick when he eventually signed elsewhere.

This strategic move essentially allowed the Vikings to “buy” a potential draft pick by keeping Jones in limbo. However, if they choose to re-sign Jones, they would forfeit any compensatory pick they might have earned from his departure.

Even if J.J. McCarthy is named the Vikings’ starting quarterback for 2025, the team will likely want a more experienced signal-caller as a backup or mentor. With a potential bidding war for quarterbacks like Jones, the Vikings are unlikely to overpay for any player at the position.
