Vikings Shock Fans: Breakout WR on the Trade Block After Drafting His Replacement?

The Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver depth chart could see some changes this season. While Justin Jefferson remains the clear focal point of the offense, the picture behind him is far less certain.

Jordan Addison, the team’s other first-round wideout, is currently facing DUI charges in California that could lead to a suspension. Now entering the third year of his rookie deal, Addison’s situation may have influenced the Vikings’ decision to draft Maryland receiver Tai Felton—an athletic prospect with the potential to eventually take over Addison’s role.

If Addison is sidelined, Felton could see early playing time. But there’s another receiver who may be more directly affected by the roster shakeup: Jalen Nailor.

On May 2, Pro Football Network named Nailor as a potential trade candidate for the Vikings. Writer Sterling Xie noted that the former sixth-round pick is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has primarily lined up on the outside—leaving him vulnerable with Jefferson frequently operating from the slot.

Nailor filled in for Addison in Weeks 2 and 3 last season, logging over 85% of offensive snaps in each game and finishing with 85 yards and two touchdowns. He ended the year with 414 receiving yards and six touchdowns, despite a slow start due to injuries. Still, his production was inconsistent—he had one or fewer catches in eight games.

Given the team’s offensive structure, the third receiver spot may only be the fifth option in the passing hierarchy behind Jefferson, tight end T.J. Hockenson, and running back Aaron Jones. As a result, Nailor might have greater value to another team, and the Vikings could explore trading him—especially if Felton impresses early.

A pre-season trade seems unlikely, but if Nailor becomes expendable and Felton emerges, a move at the October trade deadline could be on the table—particularly if Minnesota doesn’t plan to re-sign him in 2025.
