Juan Soto recently finalized a historic $765 million deal with the New York Mets. After spending the 2024 season with the New York Yankees, Soto shared a message for his former team while speaking to reporters on Thursday, as captured by Yankees Videos on X (formerly Twitter). “I want to say thank you,” Soto expressed.
“I just want to thank Yankees fans. They showed me so much love last year, and they were there for me day in and day out. They’ve earned a special place in my heart. I’ll always appreciate what they did for me in 2024.”
While the Yankees were eager to re-sign Soto, the Mets’ enormous offer ultimately proved irresistible. Soto explained the decision in more detail on Thursday, speaking to SNY.
“The Mets are a great organization,” he said. “What they’ve done in recent years, maintaining consistent success and aiming to build a dynasty, is incredible. From the outside, what you’re seeing is remarkable.”
Soto emphasized that the Mets’ vision for the future played a significant role in his choice to sign with them.
Additionally, his experience in the National League East, where he spent the first five and a half seasons of his career with the Washington Nationals, gave him valuable insight into the team’s potential. After his stint with the Nationals, Soto was traded to the San Diego Padres before joining the Yankees for the 2024 season.
