The New York Yankees are exploring a growing list of potential trade partners as they look to move veteran right-hander Marcus Stroman. With Stroman’s $18.5 million salary for 2025,

This situation could open the door for a trade between the crosstown rivals. The Yankees might look to send Stroman to the Mets in exchange for infield help, specifically targeting former first-round pick Brett Baty. Baty began the 2024 season as the Mets’ starting third baseman but lost the role to Mark Vientos in late May. With Pete Alonso returning to first base, Baty’s path to regular playing time appears blocked. Despite struggling to establish himself in the majors—posting a .229/.306/.327 slash line with four home runs in 50 games last season—Baty showed promise in Triple-A, hitting .252/.349/.504 with a .853 OPS and 16 home runs in 62 games.
A trade would also mark a reunion for Stroman and the Mets. Stroman was traded to the Mets at the 2019 deadline and spent the entire 2021 season with the team, compiling a 3.21 ERA over 44 starts. Currently sixth on the Yankees’ starting depth chart, Stroman’s $18.5 million salary makes him an expensive option for a spot starter role. After missing the first two days of pitchers’ and catchers’ workouts, Stroman made it clear to reporters that he has no intention of pitching out of the bullpen, further increasing the likelihood of a trade. The Yankees and Mets could find common ground in a deal that addresses both teams’ needs.
