Yankees Seeking to Move Marcus Stroman This Offseason
The New York Yankees are reportedly exploring trade options for starting pitcher Marcus Stroman, aiming to shed his contract as part of their offseason adjustments. According to CBS Sports’ Matt Snyder, Stroman, 33, is owed $18.5 million for 2025, with a player option for an additional $18 million in 2026. Despite his solid 2024 season, in which he posted a 10-9 record, a 4.31 ERA, and 113 strikeouts in 154.1 innings, Stroman failed to make an impact in the postseason, not seeing any game action.
With the Yankees strengthening their rotation this offseason, adding ace Max Fried, the starting pitching lineup is already stacked. Gerrit Cole, the 2023 American League Cy Young winner, alongside Fried, 2024 AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil, and two-time All-Star Carlos Rodon, form a formidable starting rotation. Stroman, who was left off the postseason roster in favor of Nestor Cortes and Clarke Schmidt, now faces a crowded field in New York’s pitching staff. 
Cortes was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for star closer Devin Williams, but Schmidt remains a key part of the Yankees’ rotation. Given these changes, Stroman, currently the sixth-highest-paid player on the roster, could become expendable as the Yankees aim to manage their $252.2 million payroll for the upcoming season. Despite his inconsistent postseason performance, Stroman’s market value remains intact, thanks to his steady production over the regular season.
The 33-year-old still offers value as a reliable starter with a history of solid performances. Teams looking to bolster their rotations could view Stroman as a viable option, making him a potential trade target for the Yankees as they reshape their pitching staff heading into 2025.
