The New York Yankees have seen two of their left-handed relief pitchers join the same National League Central team this offseason. Tim Mayza, who posted a 4.00 ERA in 15 appearances for the Yankees last season before becoming a free agent, has agreed to a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, pending a physical, as reported by Alex Stumpf of MLB.com. The 33-year-old Mayza was released by the Toronto Blue Jays in July 2024 and signed with the Yankees shortly after. Over his career, he has a 20-9 record with a 3.88 ERA across 367 games, with all but 14 of those appearances coming with the Blue Jays.
This move follows the Pirates’ earlier signing of former Yankees reliever Caleb Ferguson to a one-year, $3 million contract on January 9. Stay tuned for more updates on this story from Newsweek Sports.
