Breaking-News: Vikings Preseason Drama Incoming: Former Stars Return, Rookie QB Debuts, and a Stefon Diggs Shockwave!

Let’s be real—the NFL preseason isn’t exactly the most thrilling time for fans. For teams like the Minnesota Vikings, it holds more significance for the coaches and players than it does for fans tuning in.

The Vikings have three preseason games lined up. They’ll kick things off hosting the Houston Texans, followed by a matchup with the New England Patriots at home, and they’ll finish up the preseason with a road game against the Tennessee Titans.

Vikings to Face Familiar Faces in the 2025 Preseason

One of the highlights of the preseason is seeing former Vikings players return, and this year’s slate of exhibition games promises plenty of those moments. Fans will surely enjoy watching former players take the field in a different uniform, adding an extra layer of excitement to the games.

During the Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans, several former Vikings are set to make a return to U.S. Bank Stadium on Sept. 9. Danielle Hunter, the star edge rusher, will make his way back to Minnesota as a starter for the Texans, though he may not see much action.

NFL Stats on X: "Happy 30th birthday, Danielle Hunter! His stats this season: • 8 games • 19 tackles • 12 QB hits • 7 tackles for loss • 5.5 sacks • 1 FF, 1 PD #Texans https://t.co/uMqg9nfhKT" / X

Along with Hunter, there will be a couple of former Vikings draft picks returning as well, including offensive lineman Ed Ingram and tight end Irv Smith Jr. Additionally, former left tackle Cam Robinson will also make his return. The only team with more former Vikings players than Houston will be New England—and with Stefon Diggs coming back to U.S. Bank Stadium as a member of the Patriots, this game just got a lot more interesting.

While Diggs may steal the spotlight, the return of Josh Dobbs, Khyris Tonga, Jaquelin Roy, and Vederian Lowe adds even more intrigue to the game. These former Vikings contributors will surely catch the attention of fans.

As for the Tennessee Titans in Week 3, while the team might not have the same star power, the media will likely hype up this game as a quarterback showdown featuring two young guns making their first career starts in 2025. The intrigue will be there, even if the connection between the teams isn’t as strong. James Lynch, a former defensive lineman for the Vikings, will also make a return, though unless you’re a hardcore fan, it might not make much of an impact.

Despite not being the most action-packed games, these three preseason matchups should still offer plenty of excitement. Fans will be keeping an eye on new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy to see how he performs, and with all these familiar faces on the field, the preseason games should be fun to watch for Vikings supporters.
