Vikings Could Target Will Levis After NFL Draft as QB Depth Becomes a Priority
The Minnesota Vikings have taken a patient approach when it comes to adding another quarterback behind second-year passer J.J. McCarthy — but that could change soon after the NFL Draft wraps up next week.
With only four total picks, Minnesota is unlikely to draft another QB. Instead, the smarter move might be to explore the trade or free agent market for a veteran who can offer guidance to McCarthy or step in if he struggles or gets hurt.
One name gaining traction is Will Levis of the Tennessee Titans. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox floated a trade idea on April 18, suggesting the Vikings send a 2026 third-round pick to the Titans in exchange for Levis and a fourth-round pick this year (No. 120 overall) — a move that would help Minnesota’s limited draft capital.
“Minnesota needs a capable backup and currently only has Brett Rypien behind McCarthy,” Knox wrote. “Trading for Levis gives the Vikings an experienced QB option without sacrificing a compensatory pick in 2026.”
Levis wouldn’t serve as a mentor-type, but he does bring 21 career starts, giving Minnesota a potential short-term starter if McCarthy isn’t ready by Week 1.

Levis’ Resume: A Mixed Bag, but Valuable Experience
Selected 33rd overall in the 2023 draft, Levis has had an up-and-down start in Tennessee. In 21 starts, he’s completed 61% of his passes for 3,900 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. His record as a starter? 5–16.
While Levis shares blame for the Titans’ recent struggles, the team’s overall decline has played a role. Since 2022, Tennessee is just 16–35, and with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, they’re expected to select quarterback Cam Ward, making Levis potentially expendable.
Levis is still on a rookie contract, with two years and $9.5 million remaining — an affordable option if Minnesota wants to bolster their quarterback room without making a big financial commitment.
