“Yankees Set to Intensify Trade Pursuit for 8-Time All-Star After Red Sox Snag Bregman – Is a Blockbuster Deal Next?”

With the Boston Red Sox securing Alex Bregman

late Wednesday night, their division rivals, the New York Yankees, are now expected to aggressively pursue St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado. According to Cardinals beat writer John Denton of MLB.com, trade discussions between the Yankees and Cardinals for Arenado are likely to “ramp up” in the wake of Bregman landing in Boston. Arenado has been a prominent name on the trade block all offseason, and it appears increasingly clear that his time with the Cardinals will end before Opening Day. However, Arenado holds the final say in any potential trade due to the no-trade clause in his contract, meaning he must approve any deal.

He has already exercised this clause once this offseason, rejecting a trade to the Houston Astros after the Cardinals had agreed to a deal. The Yankees, who signed former Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt earlier this offseason, could leverage their connection to Goldschmidt to persuade Arenado to waive his no-trade clause and join the team. If the Yankees successfully acquire Arenado, they would shift Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to his natural position at second base, significantly bolstering their infield defense compared to 2024. However, the Yankees aren’t the only team in the mix. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi recently highlighted the Detroit Tigers as another potential contender in the Arenado sweepstakes.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Arenado, and it may be difficult for him to pass up the chance to play for the Yankees, reunite with Goldschmidt, and help the Bronx Bombers chase their first World Series title since 2009.
